It beat off competition from Thomson Cruises, Ocean Village and Royal Caribbean. Queen Mary 2 - launched by Cunard in 2000 - was named best ship, ahead of Celebrity Equinox. The results were published this week by the website www.cruise.co.uk, which allows cruising enthusiasts to evaluate their holidays using a range of criteria. Queen Mary 2 was named the best ship for accommodation and the best overall; Thomson Spirit was best for entertainment; Royal Caribbean's Independence of the Seas was best for families and on-board activities; and Thomson Celebration was best for food and service. Marco Polo, operated by Transocean Tours, was named best for excursions. The Italian companies MSC and Costa finished bottom in the best cruise line category. The ratings were formulated from more than 17,000 reviews contributed during the past 12 months.
