Antwerp’s new museum
A distinctive new riverside museum, standing 60m tall, opens in the Belgian
city next month (May 17), dedicated to Antwerp’s history as a port.
As well as its striking displays, including port cranes, the Museum aan de
Stroom will also have a Michelin starred-restaurant.
Then there is the medieval port town, with its diamond dealers, thriving art
scene, fashion hot-spots and lively nightlife. CityJet (www.cityjet.com)
flies from Manchester (from £128) and London City Airport (from £138).
Travel also via Brussels on Eurostar (www.eurostar.co.uk);
returns from £80. For more Antwerp recommendations, go to www.telegraph.co.uk/perfectbreak.
The Faroe Islands direct
These far-flung islands between Iceland and the Shetland Islands will become
easier to get to from June 2, when direct flights begin between London
Stansted and the island of Vágoy, through Atlantic Airways (00 298 341010; www.atlantic.fo).
While the climate makes for an unconventional summer break (bring
waterproofs), the isolation, hiking, bird life and distinctive island
culture are a real draw. Direct flights until September. Sunvil Discovery
(020 8758 4722; www.sunvil.co.uk)
can arrange package tours there.
